The Burr Ridge Police Department just received a report of a residential burglary that occurred this afternoon, at approximately 2 pm, at a home in the area of 79th Street and Wolf Road.

The resident was working in the back yard of the home, when she was distracted by a male subject purporting to be a “Tree Trimmer”. While distracted, unknown offender(s) made entry by force to the front of the home, taking valuables from the bedroom. The resident did not notice the damage or missing items until later this afternoon.

The offender who distracted the resident is describes as a male, white, large build (fat), 6’ tall, wearing a reflective vest, and a black mask over his mouth, but not covering his nose, approximately 50 years of age. The resident saw a second subject, possibly a lookout, who is described as a male, white, tall, skinny, in his 20’s.

The offenders arrived white pick up truck. The vehicle pulled all the way up the resident’s long driveway. The offenders left south bound Wolf Road, past 79th Street.

We ask residents to be alert for this vehicle and offenders. This type of burglary often targets the elderly, or people doing work outside their homes. The offenders will use several different “excuses” to distract a victim and gain compliance, such as posing as a utility worker, tree trimmer, or a handyman working on a neighbor’s house. Please share this information with friends, family, and neighbors.

Please remember to lock your doors, even when working in your yard. If you have a house alarm, set it, even if you are only leaving for a short time. Be cautious this time of year if you are outside putting up holiday decorations.
