Narrative: | |||||
Investigators arrest two juvenile suspects after they threw incendiary devices, causing a fire in the arroyo, south of the 200 block of Moorpark Avenue in the city of Moorpark. On November 24th, 2021, at about 4:33 PM, the Ventura County Fire Department received a call of a fire in the arroyo south of the 200 block of Moorpark Avenue, in Moorpark. Fire department personnel arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to a sewer drainage channel and no structures or wildland areas were threatened. Deputies from the Moorpark Police Station responded and conducted an investigation of the fire and deemed it suspicious. Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, arson investigators from both the Ventura County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office responded to the location. Their investigation determined the fire was the result of arson by incendiary device. Several juveniles were identified as possible suspects in the crime, due to a photo taken by witnesses at the scene. The investigation ultimately revealed two juveniles were responsible for the arson. On November 25th, 2021, one juvenile was arrested and lodged into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center (JJC), in Oxnard. On November 29, 2021, a second juvenile was arrested and lodged in JJC, in Oxnard. Both juveniles were arrested for 451(d) PC Arson of Property and 18710 PC Possession of a Destructive Device. Investigators are looking into the possibility that these juveniles might also be responsible for a series of fires set at various locations around the city of Moorpark dating back to September 2021. The Ventura County Fire Department and the Moorpark Police Department would like to thank the citizens who quickly reported the fire and acted swiftly to help identify the suspects. Due to low fuel moisture and drought conditions, extreme fire behavior is expected to continue throughout the year. Always be prepared for emergency evacuation. We would like to remind the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. |
