El Cerrito Police Blotter November November 22 to 29, 2021 
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
November 22nd
Vehicle Theft – 7300 Block of Terrace Dr.
An officer reported sometime in between 11/21, at 7:30 am and 11/22, at 6:00 am, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s black construction trailer.
Violation of Restraining Order – 900 Block of Elm St.
An officer reported the victim received dozens of text messages and telephone calls from her ex-husband in violation of a restraining order on file.
Prowling / Possession of Burglary Tools / Probation Violation – 7300 Block of Gladys Ave.
At 11:33 pm, officers were dispatched to the area for a suspicious person detail. An officer located a 32-year-old Richmond man lurking in the driveway of a residence staged for sale. A pair of bolt cutters was located on the driveway below the realtor key boxes and a rear window screen had been removed. The man was found to be on community supervision, and subject to search. A search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of numerous shaved keys, powered cutting tools and other burglary tools. The male was arrested and issued a citation.
Domestic Battery – 6400 Block of Schmidt Ln.
At 12:10 am, an officer reported the arrest of a 39-year-old male after the male and his romantic partner engaged in a fight over sleeping arrangements. After booking, the male transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
November 23rd
Warrant Arrest – 900 Block of Elm St.
An officer arrested a 38-year-old El Cerrito man for an arrest warrant issued after violating a restraining order. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Domestic Battery – 300 El Cerrito Plaza
At 10:00 am, officers were dispatched to a woman screaming in a stairway. Officers arrived to find a 19-year-old female who had been assaulted by her 23-year-old boyfriend. The victim sustained a broken finger and was transported to the hospital.
Hate Crime, Vandalism, Grand Theft – Korematsu Middle School, 7125 Donal Ave.
Since Monday 11/15, Korematsu Middle School has experienced incidents of vandalism and theft. Beginning last week, school staff noticed damage to some of the school windows, likely caused by a BB gun or sling shot. This morning, school staff discovered additional damaged windows along with other vandalism. All told, school staff found at least 14 damaged windows on the campus. In addition, a vandal used a pen to write derogatory messages about the principal as well as race-based messages directed toward Black people on the concrete near the upper basketball court. The suspects also broke a light fixture in the quad and stole the letter “L” from the sign in front of the school. The principal has estimated the total damages to the school to be at least $16,000.
Auto Burglary – Peet’s Coffee, 9895 San Pablo Ave.
At 5:30 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect broke a window to the victim’s vehicle and removed property.
November 24th
Vehicle Theft – 6400 Block of Schmidt Ln.
An officer reported sometime between 11/23, at 7:30 pm and 11/24, at 7:50 am, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2000 Ford Econoline E150.
Grand Theft – Foot Locker, 430 El Cerrito Plaza
At 2:30 pm, an unknown suspect entered the store, grabbed over $3000 worth of sweats, and fled without paying.
Battery – 100 Block of Wildwood Place
At 5:30 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect called the victim and met him in front of his residence. Once outside, the suspect punched the victim in the face, injuring his lip. The suspect fled in a light-colored vehicle.
Grand Theft – Walgreens, 11565 San Pablo Ave.
At 6:44 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle.
Residential Robbery – 100 Block of Wildwood Pl.
At 10:35 pm, an officer reported two men forced their way into a residence and robbed two occupants of their property while armed with a firearm.
November 25th
No incidents reported.
November 26th
Stolen Vehicle- 800 Block of Kearney St.
An officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle. The theft occurred in between 11/25, 8:00 pm and 11/26, 8:57 am.
Vandalism- Hotel Mira Vista, 6009 Potrero Ave.
An officer reported on 11/25, at 9:30 pm, an unknown suspect parked next to the victim’s vehicle. After 15 minutes, the suspect exited the vehicle and shattered the right rear passenger’s window of victim’s vehicle. There was no property loss reported.
Residential Burglary- 100 Block of Behrens St.
An officer reported unknown suspect(s) removed the lock from the front door of the victim’s house and stole several power tools. The theft occurred in between 11/24, at 8:00 pm and 11/25, at 8:00 am.
Shoplift- Ross, 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 11:50 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole merchandise from the business.
Grand Theft - 10900 Block of San Pablo Ave.
An officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s bicycle from the storage area of the condominium. The theft occurred in between 11/24, at 5:00 pm and 11/26, at 10:00 am.
Burglary – 1600 Block of Lexington Ave.
At 7:00 pm, an officer reported that an unknown suspect stole a subwoofer and tools from the victim’s detached garage sometime overnight.
Grand Theft – 7400 Block of Park Vista
At 8:48 pm, an officer reported that the victim’s iPhone was stolen by his girlfriend after an argument.
Robbery – Ross, 11545 San Pablo Ave.
At 8:53 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole clothing and purses from Ross totaling $750. When confronted by Loss Prevention, the suspect brandished a pair of pliers.
November 27th
Shoplifting and Warrant Arrest – Ross, 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 11:44 am, officers were at the El Cerrito Plaza on an unrelated matter when they were flagged down by Ross employees regarding a theft that had just occurred. Officers detained the male outside the store with unpaid merchandise. The employees advised they wanted to place the male under citizen’s arrest for the theft. During a records check, the male was found to have two active ECPD warrants for theft. The male was field cited.
Theft – 1200 Block of Richmond St.
At 12:05 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect removed the rear license plate off the victim’s vehicle.
Warrant Arrest – 6000 Block of Potrero Ave.
At 9:24 pm, an officer observed a vehicle speeding through the area. The officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the registered owner for an outstanding warrant. The 36-year old Richmond woman was issued a citation at the scene.
November 28th
DUI – 11300 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 3:21 am, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence of alcohol. The 29-year old Richmond man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, issued a citation, and released to a sober relative.
DUI – Eastshore Blvd./San Pablo Ave.
At 3:35 am, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence of alcohol. The 48-year old Richmond man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, issued a citation, and released to a sober relative.
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave./Hill St.
At 4:41 am, an officer reported the arrest of a 40-year old Richmond man that was a wanted “parolee at large”. The man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Vehicle Tampering – 2600 Block of Francisco Way
At 7:07 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect attempted to remove the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle. The suspect was scared away by the owner before being able to remove the part.
Battery – 1100 Block of James Pl.
At 7:43 am, an officer reported during a verbal altercation, the victim was assaulted by the male suspect.
Warrant Arrest – El Cerrito Plaza
At 11:23 am, an officer reported the arrest of an adult female after it was discovered she had an outstanding warrant out of Contra Costa County.
November 29th
Possession of a Concealed Firearm and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Dead End of Knott Ave.
At 5:50 am, officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers arrived and discovered two occupants inside the vehicle who were asleep. As officers contacted the subjects, officers could see drug paraphernalia on the driver’s lap. During the investigation, an officer searched the vehicle and located a loaded firearm and several types of narcotics. The driver, an adult male, was taken into custody, booked, and then released on a citation.
Grand Theft – 11000 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 8:08 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle overnight.
Stolen Vehicle – 5800 Block of El Dorado St.
At 4:49 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle.
Shoplifting – Walgreens, 11565 San Pablo Ave.
At 9:00 pm, an officer reported that three unknown male suspects stole $800 worth of cosmetics.
Vandalism – 3200 Block of Belmont Ave.
At 9:25 pm, an officer reported that an unknown male suspect spray painted graffiti on the victim’s box truck.
Stolen Vehicle – 7400 Block of Potrero Ave.
At 3:57 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s Honda CR-V.
