NOW HIRING – Public Safety Dispatcher II
$102,479 - $130,704 annually, plus 3% POST incentive pay for qualified staff and excellent benefits
The City of Santa Clara is hiring for Public Safety Dispatcher II. Our Public Safety Dispatchers work from the Communications Center in the Police Building, under the direction of the Communications Operations Manager. In 2020, Public Safety Dispatchers fielded 151,615 calls into the Communications Center, resulting in 68,8654 police calls for service and 9,699 fire calls for service. An additional 167 texts were received via Text-to-9-1-1.
All initial and on-going State-mandated required training is provided in the non-sworn Public Safety Dispatcher series, as well as routine job-related training and development is made available.
The salary for Public Safety Dispatcher II is $8,539 - $10,892 monthly. The City of Santa Clara also offers competitive benefits and incentives, including Classic PERS retirement - 2.7% at age 55 (reciprocity), 13 paid holidays, 80 hours of vacation (plus 40 additional hours after every 5 years of service), 96 hours of sick leave, 16 hours of Compensatory Time Off annually, health contribution up to $1,346.66 per month or $1,122.76 cash in-lieu ($1,261.76 with attestation), dental and vision insurance, 5% night shift differential premium pay, bilingual pay ($45 per bi-weekly pay period), $600 uniform allowance annually, 5% training pay and more. Public Safety Dispatchers are required to work holidays and weekends, as well as evening, night and early morning shifts. Currently, Public Safety Dispatchers work 12-hour shifts, alternating 3 and 4 days per week. Shift bidding takes place annually based on seniority.
The Communications Center has an on-duty treadmill stationary bicycle, and the Police Building has two gyms - cardio/weight and CrossFit style – to support a healthy lifestyle.
The Communications Center offers promotional opportunities from Communications Training Officer, Senior Public Safety Dispatcher, Admin Senior to the Communications Operations Manager. Employees with solid dispatching skills, good interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities, leadership aptitude, a positive attitude and who initiate lifelong learning are generally suited to advance in this series.
