Crime Alert Bulletin

**This bulletin contains two weeks of information.

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 11-15-21 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Officer Fulmore was dispatched to unit block of Derby Street on a report of an auto burglary that just occurred. The reporting party said she was home and heard a loud vehicle in front of her house. She looked outside her window and saw someone with a flashlight inside her husband’s truck that was parked in the driveway. The reporting party ran to her husband and told him someone was inside the truck. They both exited their house, and the reporting party picked up a three foot metal pole. The husband approached the driver’s side door, and the suspect did not want to get out of the vehicle and jumped to the passenger side and fled the vehicle. The husband ran around the other side of the vehicle and grabbed the suspect. A struggle ensued, and they both fell into a cactus bush. The suspect ran away, and in the process, he dropped a cellphone and a glass breaking device. The suspect ran back to retrieve his cellphone, and the reporting party struck the suspect once in the ribs with the metal pipe. The suspect picked up his phone and ran on Derby Street towards Gellert Boulevard. The reporting party identified the suspect as a Polynesian male, 20-26 years old, 5’6”, 150-160 pounds, curly hair tied up in a ponytail, and was clean shaven.

On Monday, 11-15-21 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Officer Coutts was dispatched to the Walgreen’s store on San Pedro Road on a report of a brandishing of a knife. The reporting party, a 55-year old San Francisco resident, said he left the Walgreen’s store and was walking westbound on San Pedro Road when a male subject asked him, “What did you say to me?” The victim told the suspect that he didn’t say anything, and he said the suspect then drew a knife, which resembled a switchblade. The victim walked back into the store and dialed 911. The victim gave a description of the suspect, and Officer M. Martin found the suspect by the I-280 overpass at Junipero Serra Boulevard and School Street. Officer M. Martin conducted a field show of the suspect, and the victim positively identified the suspect. The suspect, a 49-year old Daly City resident, said he reached into his pocket to pull out a knife to protect himself. Based on the statements from both parties and the knife found on the suspect, Officer Coutts cited the suspect for brandishing a weapon.

On Friday, 11-19-21 at approximately 8:14 p.m., Officer Smith was dispatched to the Home Depot on a report of a male who had been in the restroom for over an hour. The reporting party said he saw a cap of a needle where the male was. Officer Smith arrived to see the legs and shoes of a subject inside a bathroom stall and knocked on the door. The subject initially did not answer but then said he was exiting the stall. The officer asked the suspect if he had any fentanyl or needles on him, and the subject said he had both. Officer Smith cited the subject, a 26-year old Santa Rosa resident, for possession of a controlled substance.

On Sunday, 11-21-21 at 4:40 a.m., Officer Smith was on patrol on Clarinada Avenue and saw a vehicle make a right turn onto Lakeshire Drive without stopping at the posted stop sign. Officer Smith then observed the vehicle drive through six posted stop signs, while at a high rate of speed. The driver then turned off the headlights while driving to avoid police contact. Officer Smith subsequently arrested the subject, a 21-year old Daly City resident, for reckless driving.

On Sunday, 11-21-21 at approximately 1:34 p.m., Officer Aguilar and Officer Serbin were dispatched to the unit block of El Portal Way on a report of a subject screaming and trying to gain entrance into a residence. Lieutenant Rolfes and Sergeant Klier also arrived and found the subject who was sweating profusely, speaking at a high rate of speed, fluttering his eyes, and was unable to focus on answering questions. The officers determined the suspect, a 39-year old San Francisco resident, was under the influence of a controlled substance and booked him into jail for being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

On Sunday, 11-21-21 at approximately 7:25 p.m., officers arrested a 32-year old Daly City resident for assault with a deadly weapon after he hit a 40-year old Daly City resident with a glass beer bottle in the chest, causing the bottle to break. This occurred outside the Plaza Liquor and Deli parking lot on East Market Street.

On Tuesday, 11-23-21 at approximately 11:55 a.m., Officer Hepler was dispatched to a residence on the 200 block of Alta Vista Way on a report of a subject seen knocking and trying to open a rear backyard window to a residence. The caller said once she made eye contact with the subject, the subject left on foot towards South Hill Boulevard. The reporting party described the suspect as a mixed-race male, approximately 5’8”, last seen wearing an “ombre” dark blue to gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood on and a face mask. Officers checked the area for the suspect, but they could not find him.

On Wednesday, 11-24-21 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a 33-year old Daly City resident was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after stabbing his 45-year old neighbor with a kitchen knife in his stomach and also striking him in the head with a nail causing a 4” laceration to his face. This occurred inside a garage on the unit block of 3rd Avenue. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for his injuries.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
