INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision (Felony hit and run)

LOCATION: Main Street and Fifth Avenue, Hesperia, CA

INVOLVED PARTY (1): Raul Granillo, 66-year-old, Hesperia resident (Pedestrian)

INVOLVED PARTY (2): Pedro Rosas, 19-year-old, Hesperia resident (Silver 2021 Ford F-150)

SUMMARY: On Friday, December 3, 2021, at approximately 8:12 PM, deputies from the Hesperia Station and San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel responded to the area of Main street and Fifth Avenue for a traffic collision. Upon arrival, deputies found Raul Granillo unresponsive and lying in the #1 westbound lane of Main Street, west of Fifth Avenue. Witnesses saw the silver F-150 flee the area westbound on Main Street immediately following the collision. Evidence was located at the scene that led deputies to the F-150 owner's residence. Prior to making contact at the residence, the registered owner called 9-1-1 to report the F-150 stolen. The truck owner eventually told deputies the truck was not stolen and he was a passenger during the collision, while Pedro Rosas was driving. Rosas was located by deputies, as well. As a result of the collision, Granillo died from his injuries.

Investigators from the Region II Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Main Street between Fifth Avenue and Seventh Avenue was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.

Pedro Rosas was arrested for CVC 20001(a): Felony Hit-and-Run and booked into the High Desert Detention Center.
