Alert

The City of Hoisington’s primary water well has been restored and the Boil Order Advisory lifted.

The City of Hoisington’s primary water supply well stopped working yesterday afternoon due to a pump failure in Well # 4.  The City’s staff contacted KDHE to make them aware of the issue and asked Hoisington residents to conserve water.  The City informed KDHE that our staff was working to restore operations at Well # 4 and that another option was to change to a different water source (Well # 6).  KDHE indicated that if our staff pulled water from Well # 6 that a Boil Order would need to be put in place.  Our staff received a press release indicating a Boil Order advisory had been issued for our community.  Through the extraordinary efforts of our staff, we were able to locate a pump and restore operations of Well # 4 without ever pulling from the other water source (Well # 6).  When Well # 4 was not operating, our staff was able to utilize the water stored in the water tower, clear well and booster tower to maintain pressure and supply in our system.

At no time was the quality or safety of the City of Hoisington’s water supply ever threatened.  Nothing that took place warranted a Boil Order and so, this morning, KDHE agreed to lift the Boil Order that was issued out of an abundance of caution.  The City and its staff are sorry for any concern or inconvenience this situation has caused.  We are working to ensure that our staff is aware of the necessary notification procedures and processes.  We are also working to ensure that all of our wells are ready to operate at a moments notice.

Our staff is grateful for the opportunity to serve our community.  We understand the importance of providing quality water, wastewater and electric service to our residents and it is not an obligation our staff takes lightly.  The City is committed to improving our processes and practices to build better and more responsive utilities.

Instructions:

Please resume use of water without restrictions or concern.
