Alert: Repeat Suspect approaches teenage girl on McGee Avenue

On December 6th at 9:30 am, a high-school age girl was walking on McGee Avenue near Channing Way.  As she crossed Channing a man approached her on foot and engaged her in a conversation.  The man told the girl he needed help finding his daughter and that he wanted to walk with the girl to Berkeley High School.  When the girl refused, the man told her that she should not be worried because he was a cop.  The girl did not believe the man and she kept walking.  The man followed the girl and cornered her in a less visible part of the sidewalk (where there were many plants and trees).  While there, the man told the girl that he wanted her to give him a hug and made a threat about having a knife.

The girl was able to step away from the man and reported the incident soon after.

The suspect was described as a White male, about 5’5” tall, with facial hair, wearing a black beanie, black gaiter mask, black hooded sweatshirt, and black sweatpants.  The suspect’s vehicle is a newer model red Ford Mustang Fastback with a rear spoiler and dark tinted windows.

We believe the suspect in this incident is the same suspect reported in a previous incident on the 1300 block of Gilman Street on September 29th.

If you live in the Channing Way and McGee Avenue neighborhood and have a security camera, please review your camera for any footage that may have recorded the suspect on the morning of December 6th between 9:15 am and 9:45 am.

If you have any information about this suspect, please contact BPD’s Sex Crimes Unit at (510) 981-5735.
