Handgun found during traffic stop
On December 3rd at 8:08 pm, an officer stopped a vehicle after observing the driver fail to stop for a red light in the area of Ashby Avenue and Seventh Street. (According to the Vision Zero Action plan, Ashby Avenue a high-injury street).
When the officer contacted the driver, he learned that the driver was unlicensed and that the vehicle’s registration expired in 2017.
When the officer searched the vehicle, the officer found a loaded handgun underneath the seat.
On December 7th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the driver (a 22-year-old Oakland man) PC 29800(a)(1)—being a felon in possession of a firearm, PC 25400(a)(1)—carrying a concealed firearm, as well as several criminal enhancements.
