The cold weather is here! Follow a few simple safety tips so you can "chill" and relax at home! 
The cold weather is here Antelope Valley!
This weekend's temps will hit the mid to high 20's all weekend long. Lancaster Sheriff's Station would like to share a few cold weather safety tips to keep you, your home and your car safe!
1. Install a carbon monoxide detector in your home. NEVER run generators indoors and NEVER use a gas oven to heat your home.
2. When using a fireplace or wood-burning stove, always keep a screen around an open flame. Keep children away from fireplaces, heaters and stoves.
3. Bring all your 4 legged friends indoors at night. Below freezing temperatures could cause frostbite and hypothermia.
4. Check your car's battery and all the fluids such as wiper, coolant and oil. Check tire pressure and if you have them available, have jumper cables with you at all times.
5. SLOW DOWN! Black ice can form over night and last into the morning time. Drive steadily and slowly especially in areas where pavement looks dark, wet or like new asphalt.
6. Finally, NEVER, EVER, EVER leave your vehicle running while unattended. A LARGE majority of vehicle thefts in the winter time are considered "warm-up thefts", where residents leave their cars running to warm the engine up and go back inside their homes, leaving their cars unattended. It takes less than a few seconds for someone to jump in your car and take off with it.
Take a few moments to prepare just a little more during this freezing season so you can be sure to "chill" and relax at home later.
