ROHNERT PARK – On 12/11/2021, at 5:56 PM, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a 911 call regarding a possible apartment fire in the 400 block on Santa Alicia Drive.
An RPDPS Patrol Officer who is dual trained as a firefighter was in the area and arrived on scene within two minutes of the initial call. The Officer observed smoke coming from the apartment and opened the door. The Officer saw an unattended cooking pot on the stove which had started on fire. The cooking pot was removed from the stove and placed outside.
Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Fire Engine arrived on scene with the Rancho Adobe Fire Engine and removed the large amount of smoke from the apartment.
The resident arrived home and stated that she forgot to turn off the stove from cooking the items before leaving.
It was later determined that the reporting caller who was a neighbor heard the smoke detector sounding next door and investigated it to find the apartment filled with smoke.
Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety would like to remind everyone during this holiday season to not leave cooking items unattended and to replace their batteries in smoke detectors.
