Update:

On December 12, at approximately 10pm, the Green Bay Police Department was dispatched to an incident that alleged there were several Instagram posts relating to a threat of a school shooting at Preble High School. 

Officers and Investigators worked throughout the night and morning to investigate the posts and work with the Green Bay Area Public Schools to make sure that everyone would be safe.  Part of the plan included placing extra officers in the schools throughout the next day.

This morning, two Preble High School students, ages 16 and 15 admitted to Detectives that they had posted the threats, as they thought it was funny and wanted to see what people’s reactions would be.  It does not appear that there was any real attempt to prepare or complete any type of shooting at a school.  Brown County Juvenile Intake was contacted, as in all cases involving Juveniles, and the suspects were taken to Brown County Secure Detention. Charges of Terrorist Threats are being referred on both. 

The Green Bay Police Department would like to thank the public for notifying us of the threats in a timely manner as well as the Green Bay School District who worked with us during the investigation to determine where the threats originated as well as assisting in coordinating the plan to keep the schools safe. As the saying goes, “If you see something, say something.”

The Green Bay Police Department takes school safety seriously and will investigate all threats to the fullest.  We encourage parents to speak to their children about appropriate use of social media and the seriousness of making threats.  It is our goal that all students cannot only be safe, but feel safe in school.  For this reason there will be a extra police presence at Preble High School tomorrow.

Prior release:

Several posts on Instagram yesterday evening indicated a threat of an active shooter event at Preble High School.  At this time several individuals are being interviewed reference the threats.  We do not believe that there is any further threat, however, there will be an increased police presence at the schools throughout the day.

We would like to that the school district for working with us to investigate this matter.  Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation we will not be releasing further information at this time.
