Advisory

Winter Weather Advisory until 11:00PM Tuesday

* WHAT...Blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches. Northeast winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph. Visibility as low as one half mile or less at times.

* WHERE...Thompson Pass.

* WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to 11 PM AKST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel may be difficult. Areas of blowing snow could reduce visibility to one half mile or less at times. Cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 to 15 minutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Moist southerly flow along a weak surface front will feed a persistent band of snow starting this evening as cold air in the Copper River Basin continues to drive gusty winds through Thompson Pass. A northwesterly push of cold, dry air aloft will push the front eastward, causing the snow to taper off Tuesday night, resulting in improving conditions. Gusty winds will continue through Wednesday night.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NORTHEAST PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND

Instructions:

Slow down and use caution while traveling. For the latest road conditions call 5 1 1 or visit 511.alaska.gov.
