Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office (MI) responded to a personal injury traffic crash on M 51 Hwy near Thompson Rd. in Cass County's Pokagon Township. This crash occurred on 12-14-21 at approximately 1615 hours. Investigation of the crash showed that a car driven by Cloe Mittan (20 yrs of Niles, MI) struck a box truck being driven by Raymond Bakos (30 yrs of South Bend, IN). Mr. Bakos was backing into a driveway when he was struck by Ms. Mittan. Mr. Bakos and Ms. Mittan were transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  A passenger in Mr. Bakos' vehicle, Tony Wilson, was not injured. Seat belts were worn by all. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.  Assisting at the crash scene were Pokagon Township Fire Dept, Pokagon Tribal Police and PrideCare Ambulance.
