Holiday Safety Tips!
Holiday Safety Tips:
The holiday season is here! This is the time of year to spend with family and friends, do some shopping, and spread some holiday cheer. Unfortunately, this is also the time of year for some to take advantage of the busy holiday bustle. The Arcadia Police Department would like to offer some safety tips to make your holidays happy, bright, and safe.
Safety:
Recently there have been several incidents involving large groups of criminals stealing merchandise from businesses, as well as people being followed home and robbed:
- While you are out shopping, and on your way home, be aware of your surroundings. If you believe you are being followed, call the police or drive to the nearest police station.
- If you see a large group of criminals engaging in a “Flash Mob” style theft from aa retail business, stay out of their way and call the police when it is safe to do so
Packages:
During the holiday season, we often experience an increase in package thefts:
- Please pick up your packages as soon as possible.
- If you know you won’t be home when a package may arrive, consider having a family member or a trusted neighbor pick it up for you.
- Many delivery companies offer ways to reschedule package drop off times or locations if you can’t be home at the scheduled delivery time.
“Hide it, Lock it, Keep it”
Thefts from automobiles often increase during this time of year. Criminal will not hesitate to smash out windows to get to items inside your car.
- Don’t leave valuables in your car that can be seen through the windows while you are shopping or at home.
- Lock the doors to your car and set the alarm.
