Crime Blotter for the Week of December 5 - December 11, 2021
December 05, 2021
Grand Theft:
1800 block of Chesson Street. The suspect, a male Hispanic adult wearing dark clothing, was observed on 12/05/21 at approximately 2:59 am by a resident taking items from his neighbor’s vehicle and placing them into a light blue Mazda. He then drove away towards Second Street and Miltonwood Avenue. Responding deputies detained the driver of the vehicle and had the victim identify several stolen tools valued at approximately $1,000.

Grand Theft:
900 block of Hamilton Road. On 12/06/21 between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm suspect (s) unknown entered the victims unlocked 2021 white BMW 540I and stole approximately $4,300 worth of items. No video surveillance available.
December 07, 2021
Grand theft:
2300 block of Las Brisas Drive. Between 12/06/21 at 10:00 pm and 12/07/21 and 11:00 am suspect(s) unknown stole the victim’s catalytic converter to his 2004 white Toyota Prius. The stolen catalytic converter cost approximately $4,000 to replace. No video surveillance available.

Grand theft:
1000 block of Trails Lane. On 12/08/21 between 10:00 am and 11:00 am suspect(s) unknown stole a landscaping fertilizer machine that had been left unattended. The item was valued at approximately $1,000. No video surveillance available.

Burglary (vehicle):
900 Block of Maynard Drive. Between 12/10/21 10:30 pm and 12/11/21 10:30 am suspect(s) unknown shattered the rear window to the victim’s 2020 red Mini cooper and stole her purse, which was located on her rear floorboard, and stole some holiday gifts that were on top of her passenger seat. Loss was approximately $3,600. No surveillance video.
Holiday Safety Tips
The holiday season is here! This is the time of year to spend with family and friends, do some shopping, and spread some holiday cheer. Unfortunately, this is also the time of year for some to take advantage of the busy holiday bustle. The Duarte Public Safety Department would like to offer some safety tips to make your holidays happy, bright, and safe.
Safety:
Recently there have been several incidents involving large groups of criminals stealing merchandise from businesses, as well as people being followed home and robbed:
- While you are out shopping, and on your way home, be aware of your surroundings. If you believe you are being followed, call the police or drive to the nearest police station.
- If you see a large group of criminals engaging in a “Flash Mob” style theft from aa retail business, stay out of their way and call the police when it is safe to do so
Packages:
During the holiday season, we often experience an increase in package thefts:
- Please pick up your packages as soon as possible.
- If you know you won’t be home when a package may arrive, consider having a family member or a trusted neighbor pick it up for you.
- Many delivery companies offer ways to reschedule package drop off times or locations if you can’t be home at the scheduled delivery time.
“Hide it, Lock it, Keep it”
Thefts from automobiles often increase during this time of year. Criminal will not hesitate to smash out windows to get to items inside your car.
- Don’t leave valuables in your car that can be seen through the windows while you are shopping or at home.
- Lock the doors to your car and set the alarm.
