School Safety Update - No Credibility to Social Media Post
School Safety Update
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka wants to assure all members of our community that the safety of our schools is a top priority. “We are constantly working with our school community to ensure the safest possible environment on a daily basis. Today alone, we spoke with school officials, the Middlesex County Prosecutor, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, and federal officials to review a national social media post. After reviewing all the intelligence on the social media post, it has been determined there is no credibility to the post. State, federal, and county officials do not believe there is a threat connected to schools. We will still enhance our police presence at all schools to reassure parents and students,” said Chief Hayducka.
Our effort to ensure school safety is an ongoing process. We are constantly assessing the school safety environment as it changes on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. One of the trends that have been apparent in New Jersey over the past several weeks is active assistance by students and staff in early reporting incidents or concerns. It is imperative, now more than ever, that we establish relationships and encourage open lines of communication between students, staff, parents, and police. It is because people stepped up and notified the proper authority that several incidents statewide did not end in tragedy. "See something, say something."
Here are some basic tips on how parents, students, staff, and our community can create the safest environment.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
- Encourage – See Something, Say Something
- Increase Open Communication with Students, Staff, and Parents
- Report – Do Not Hesitate to Report Your Concerns or Issues to Police (732) 329-4646 or 911 if an emergency
Working as one community we can create the safest environment for our schools.
