ROHNERT PARK – On 12/16/21 at approximately 5:15 PM, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Dispatch received a call from the Safeway grocery store in Rohnert Park that a customer was intoxicated inside the store and was last seen driving away out of the parking lot. Officers searched the area for the vehicle and were unable to locate it.

At approximately 6:10 PM, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Dispatch received a report of a traffic collision involving several vehicles in the area of Country Club Drive and Emily Avenue. It was determined this was the same vehicle that left from the Safeway parking lot an hour earlier.

Officers arrived on scene and observed several parked vehicles on Country Club Drive had been struck by the vehicle driven by Jon Verrett out of the City of Fairfield. Officers contacted Verrett who was standing next to his vehicle which had lost its front wheel and had major damage to the front of the car.

Verrett displayed signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication. Officers initiated a DUI investigation which Verrett was unable to finish due to his intoxication. Verrett had a blood alcohol content of .25, which is over three times the legal limit. He was arrested and transported to the Sonoma County Jail and booked for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol.

The owners of the parked vehicles were contacted and a report was taken for insurance purposes.

Officers will continue extra traffic enforcement over the holidays in an effort to reduce the amount of impaired drivers on the roadway and alcohol related collisions.

Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety would like to remind everyone to drive safe and drink responsibly during the holiday season.
