Protect Your Ride

Each year, as the holiday season ramps up there is generally an uptick in car burglaries and thefts from vehicles.

Theft is a crime of opportunity, and thieves are often attracted to areas where there is a concentration of unattended vehicles, such as retail outlets, entertainment venues, restaurants and hotels.

Make sure that you are doing everything in your power to protect your ride regardless if you are parking your vehicle at home or are out and about.

- Lock doors and windows
- Never leave your car running and unattended - even for a “minute”
- Do not leave valuables in your vehicle (e.g. purse / wallet, electronics, cash / loose change, gym bags, charging cords, etc.) especially if they can be seen from outside your vehicle
- Park in secure, highly trafficked and well lit areas, or in a garage if you have one
- Install and use an audible alarm system or anti-theft device
- After shopping, lock items in the trunk and take everything out of your car when you arrive home
- Secure spare keys at home or with a family member. Do not attach a spare key to the underside of your vehicle
- Remain alert of your surroundings

In addition, do not leave your garage door opener locked in your car while it is in your driveway or parked on the street.
