Fremont Fire and Alameda County Fire HazMat teams are at the scene of an overturned tractor trailer on NB I-680 south of Auto Mall Parkway. The trailer leaked gasoline into the storm drain and retention pond.
Due to the smell of gas, approximately 100 homes located along the I-680 sound wall were evacuated by Fremont PD. The City of Fremont Public Works Corps Yard was offered as temporary evacuation shelter for residents.
Firefighters estimate it will take between 8-12 hours to off load remaining fuel into another tanker and upright the trailer and tractor.
This multi-agency response includes CHP-Dublin, CalTrans, Fremont PD, Fremont Public Works, Department of Fish & Game, Alameda County Fire Department HazMat Team, and the Fremont Fire Department.
