Fellow Leonians:
 
Building from the success of Tuesday’s vaccine/booster clinic (where over 400 people, including over 50 children ages 5-11, received boosters or first vaccine doses), we are pleased to announce that we will be holding another vaccine/booster clinic on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. The clinic will be open from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Leonia Recreation Center, 370 Broad Ave. in Leonia.

The following vaccines/boosters will be available:

• Pfizer pediatric: Authorized for ages 5-11 (first vaccine only – boosters are not authorized)
• Moderna: Authorized for adults 18 years of age and older, both for first vaccine and boosters. NOTE: Regardless of the first vaccine that you received (Pfizer, Moderna or J&J, you can (and many do) receive the Moderna booster shot.

If you have already made an appointment for the December 28, 2021 clinic, you do NOT need to do so again; you will receive the vaccine for which you registered. Anyone who has NOT yet registered should do so as soon as possible, as the last clinic was completely booked well in advance. As a reminder, you are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine or booster injection at this clinic if you are;

• 5-11 years of age and have never received a COVID-19 vaccine; or;
• 18 years of age or older and have never received a COVID-19 vaccine; or;
• 18 years of age or older and received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine six (6) months ago or longer (to receive booster); or;
• 18 years of age or older and received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine two (2) months ago or longer (to receive booster).

The Omicron COVID-19 variant has caused an exponential increase in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country, especially here in New Jersey. Today (December 24, 2021) New Jersey is reporting 15,630 new cases (record number), and a transmission rate of 1.37 (record high rate). 20 of 21 New Jersey counties (including Bergen County and all surrounding counties) are at the highest risk level (“severe”).
 
The best defense against contracting COVID-19 is to ensure that you and all eligible members of your family are fully vaccinated and/or have received a booster (if eligible). We hope you will consider taking part in the December 28 Borough of Leonia COVID-19 vaccine/booster clinic.
