ROHNERT PARK – On 12/25/2021, at 7:50 PM, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a 911 call regarding a fire at a mobile home at 509 Loma Verde Lane in the Las Casitas Park. The fire was called in by an alert neighbor as the homeowners were away for the holiday evening.

An RPDPS Patrol Officer who is dual trained as a firefighter was in the area and arrived on scene within three minutes of the initial call. The Officer observed smoke coming from the residence and advised he could see a small fire on the kitchen table.

Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Fire with the assistance of Rancho Adobe Fire arrived on scene within six minutes of the initial call and began extinguishment of the fire. A primary search of the residence was completed by firefighters during the fire and two dogs were located and brought to safety. The fire was confined to the kitchen table and the adjacent wall with heavy smoke damage to the residence.

It was later determined that a candle was left lit on the kitchen table which ignited a wreath that surrounded it. The homeowners were notified and returned home where their two dogs were reunited with them.

The residence was deemed unsafe due to heavy smoke damage until further inspection by a building official. The family was offered Red Cross but elected to stay with family for the night.

Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety would like to remind everyone during this holiday season that holiday decorations and candles are often the cause of fire when left unattended.
