El Cerrito Police Department Blotter December 14th to December 19th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
December 14th
 
Auto Burglary – Kearney St. / Eureka Ave. 
 
Between 7:53 am and 9:00 am, an unknown suspect shattered the rear left passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole property. 
 
Vehicle Theft – 700 block of Kearney St.
 
On 12/13, a parcel delivery driver exited his vehicle to deliver packages. Unfortunately, he left the doors unlocked and the vehicle’s engine running.  When he returned to the vehicle, he saw two suspects inside.  The suspects fled the area in the victim’s vehicle. 
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
 
At 2:30 pm, an officer located the above stolen vehicle, parked in the fire lane behind 2000 El Cerrito Plaza.
 
Auto Burglary – Parking lot of Bank of America, 10422 San Pablo Ave.
 
Between 1:00 pm and 1:40 pm, an unknown suspect shattered the rear left passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole property.
 
Vandalism – Parking lot of Chipotle, 9901 San Pablo Ave. 
 
Between 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm, an unknown suspect used a sharp object to scratch the exterior doors and fenders of the victim’s newly purchased vehicle.
 
Vehicle Theft – 1200 block of Liberty St.
 
Between 12/10 at 6:00 pm and 12/11 at 3:45 pm, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s Yamaha X-Max scooter.
 
Shoplift – Barnes & Noble, 6050 EC Plaza
 
At 4:15 pm, an unknown suspect entered the business, filled a canvas shopping bag with merchandise, and fled without paying.    
 
Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Property – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln.
 
At 6:33 pm, an officer contacted the 39-year-old driver who had a stolen license plate on the rear of their vehicle. During the officer's investigation he learned the vehicle was also reported stolen. The inside of the vehicle contained tools and equipment consistent with those used by a catalytic converter thief. The man was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Trespass – 1700 block of Manor Circle
 
At 7:45 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect gained access to a vacant home and left behind a gym bag contiang clothing. There was no damage done to the home and no loss was reported. The incident occurred sometime during the month of December.
 
Shoplifting – Atlas Liquor, 11382 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 8:14 pm, an officer reported a group of 7-8 suspects entered the business and stole several bottles of alcohol; the suspects ranged in ages from 16-50 years old.
 
December 15th
 
Vandalism – 2100 block of Kearney St.
 
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect used a blunt object to strike the plate glass window of the victim’s business, leaving an indentation.
 
Petty Theft – 700 block of Colusa Ave.
 
At 8:25 am, an unknown suspect stole a package from the victim’s porch.
 
Stolen Vehicle – 600 block of Lexington Ave.
 
At 10:16 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle from the street in front of the residence sometime during the past two days.
 
December 16th
 
Armed Robbery – Exxon, 10602 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 12:35 pm, an unknown suspect entered the business, selected merchandise, and left without paying.  The clerk followed the suspect outside and demanded the merchandise back.  The suspect pulled a firearm from his waistband and pointed it at the clerk.  The suspect then fled on foot. 
 
Shoplifting – Marshall’s, 10759 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 6:42 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered the business and removed several items of men’s clothing before exiting without payment.
 
Burglary – 1400 block of Liberty St.

At 6:55 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect opened an unsecured garage door at the victim’s residence and removed two bicycles.
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Schmidt Ln. / Kearney St.
 
At 7:22 pm, an officer reported the victim located their stolen vehicle which had been stolen several days earlier. The vehicle was released to the owner who drove their vehicle home.

December 17th
 
Commercial Burglary – Popeye’s, 10125 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 8:20am, an officer reported that an unknown suspect shattered the front door to the business, no property loss was reported.
 
Robbery –O’Reilly’s, 9989 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 10:44am, an officer reported that two unknown suspects entered the business and stole car batteries and windshield wipers. An employee confronted the suspects at the exit and tried to retrieve the property. One suspect pepper sprayed the employee and both suspects fled through the parking lot towards Carlson Blvd.
 
Theft From Auto – 8600 block of Arbor Dr.
 
At 1:00pm, an officer reported that an unknown suspect stole property from the victim’s unlocked vehicle.
 
Shoplifting – Sketchers, 5805 Cutting Blvd.
 
At 3:36 pm, an officer reported that an unknown suspect stole property.
 
Auto Burglary – Marshall’s, 10759 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 6:46 pm, an officer was sent to a call where the victim had just interrupted people breaking into her vehicle.  The suspects shattered a window, but did not get inside the vehicle. The owner had walked up and scared the suspects off. 
 
December 18th
 
Theft from Auto – 1700 block of Arlington Blvd.
 
At 7:43 am, an officer reported that an unknown suspect stole property from the victim’s unlocked vehicle.
 
Stolen Vehicle – 10500 block of San Pablo Ave.
 
At 11:47 am, an officer reported that an unknown suspect stole the victim’s white 2015 Ford Transit van sometime in the past 24 hours.
 
Shoplifting – Walgreens, 11565 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 2:14 pm, an officer reported that an unknown suspect stole $600 worth of cosmetics.
 
Petty Theft/Vandalism – 1700 block of Lexington Ave.
 
At 2:26 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect pried open the mailboxes at an apartment complex and stole an unknown quantity of mail and packages sometime overnight.
 
Grand Theft – Ross, 11545 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 9:10 pm, an officer was sent to the report of a theft that occurred a few minutes earlier.  Two suspects entered Ross and selected over $1000.00 worth of merchandise and walked out of the store without paying for the items. 
 
December 19th
 
Warrant Arrest – Central Ave. at I-580
 
At approximately 3:30 am, an officer spotted a subject walking that the officer knew had an outstanding warrant for their arrest.  The subject was contacted and placed under arrest for the Assault with a Deadly Weapon warrant issued by the Richmond Police Department.  The subject was booked at ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 
 
Arson – 10200 block of San Pablo Ave.
 
At 12:48 pm, an officer reported that the El Cerrito Fire Department discovered a Conex box was on fire at the abandoned building. The contents of the box were destroyed. A search of the area suggested that unhoused persons were squatting on the premises.
 
December 20th
 
Auto Burglary – Peet’s Coffee, 9895 San Pablo Ave.
 
At 4:39 am, an officer was sent to the report of an auto Burglary that had occurred a few minutes earlier.  The suspect shattered the window of the vehicle and rummaged through the interior.
