SMPD Arrests A Shooting Suspect

San Mateo, CA- On December 24, 2021 at approximately 8:09 p.m., SMPD dispatch received a phone call from a person requesting assistance after being shot in the face.  However, the victim was confused and did not know his exact location.  SMPD quickly determined the reporting party was at a residence on the 600 block of N Claremont Street.  Upon arrival, officers located a 30-year-old male victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was transported to a local trauma center for non-life-threatening injuries. 

SMPD launched a comprehensive investigation.  SMPD patrol and detectives initially encountered an uncooperative victim.  However, through developed leads, SMPD determined the suspect was the victim’s brother, who was later identified as Camerino CruzPineda.  SMPD learned the victim and CruzPineda had a heated argument at their residence, and CruzPineda shot the victim in the face. 

SMPD patrol officers and detectives worked diligently and meticulously into the early morning hours of Christmas Day.  A police canine deployed and two search warrants were executed as part of this extensive investigation.  Evidence collected as a result of the search warrant is being analyzed and processed.  SMPD located CruzPineda as he was leaving the residence and arrested him without incident.  He was booked into San Mateo County Jail for attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charges: Attempted Murder (664/187 PC), Possession of a Controlled Substance (11350 H&S), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (11364 H&S)
