Hero Workout in Honor of Officer Robert Avina
Today marks the 58th anniversary of the End of Watch for Santa Clara Police Officer Robert "Bob" Avina.
Officer Avina was rushing to the scene of an accident on his police motorcycle when a truck collided with him. Officer Avina suffered a broken neck as a result of the collision, ending his career as a police officer. Although paralyzed and in a wheelchair for 40 years, Mr. Avina became a paralegal and was an adviser at the Silicon Valley Living Center.
Mr. Avina passed away on July 13, 2004 from pneumonia.
A Hero Workout of the Day will be conducted in honor of Officer Avina’s End of Watch. Residents are encouraged to participate in the Hero Workout of the Day from a location of your choice. It will include:
12 Minute AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible)
- 30 Kettlebell swings
- 6 Pull Ups
- 3 Burpee Box Jumps
Meanwhile, Santa Clara Police Department personnel are also encouraged to wear today a tie as a sign of respect.
