City Thanks Identification Officer Jeff Jacoby for 30 Years of Service
On Thursday, December 30, 2021, Identification Officer Jeff Jacoby will officially retire from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after over 30 years of service to the City of Janesville.
Identification Officer Jacoby has served the community as a member of the JPD since his hire in August 1991. Originally from Sauk County, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.
Identification Officer Jacoby credits a desire to help people in his community for bringing him to a career in law enforcement. Throughout his time with the JPD, he held a variety of assignments, including Patrol Officer, Bike Officer, and DARE Officer. He also served for ten years as a School Resource Officer at Franklin Middle School. His positive interactions were noted as helping shape many students’ futures, with one former pupil once thanking him years later for providing him direction in life.
In 2007, Identification Officer Jacoby came to his current role with the Investigations Bureau. He has processed evidence in sexual assaults, armed robberies, traffic fatalities, arsons, burglaries, and homicides. His diligent work has been recognized on numerous occasions, including by the Rock County Coroner in 2012 for his assistance during a death investigation and 2021 when he received a Chief's Commendation for his outstanding work in identifying and collecting evidence during an arson investigation.
Another example of Identification Officer Jacoby's exemplary service came in 2001 when the JPD recognized his lifesaving efforts in performing CPR on an infant having a medical emergency.
In retirement, Identification Officer Jacoby plans to spend more time with his family, including his wife, Lisa, and their son, Jed. An avid outdoorsman, he also plans to take more time to hunt. He looks forward to volunteering with a statewide K9 Search and Rescue Team to help bring home the lost and missing.
When asked what he would miss most about his job, Identification Officer Jacoby said making a difference in the community and helping his neighbors. He shared that he thoroughly appreciated innovating and problem-solving with the JPD team during his career.
The City of Janesville would like to thank Identification Office Jeff Jacoby for his more than 30 years of dedicated service to his community, the Janesville Police Department, and the City of Janesville.
