On Thursday, December 30, 2021, Detective Dale Stutika will officially retire from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after over 31 years of service to the City of Janesville.  

Detective Stutika has served the community as a member of the JPD since his hire as a Police Officer in June 1990. Originally from Madison, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.

Working in sales after his college graduation, a desire for public service led Detective Stutika to a career in law enforcement. Throughout his career with the JPD, he held a variety of assignments, including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Range Officer, Special Operations Unit member, and SWAT Officer. His dedicated work has been recognized on numerous occasions, including in 2007 when he received a Division Commendation for his attention to detail and investigative efforts leading to the arrest of a suspect involved in five separate burglaries. 

In 2009, Detective Stutika came to his current role with the Detective Bureau. He has investigated various cases during his time with the Bureau, including sexual assaults, armed robberies, and homicides. 

In retirement, Detective Stutika plans to spend more time with his family, including his children Melysa and Lauren. He will enjoy the opportunity to relax and help encourage his daughters’ athletic endeavors in archery and basketball. 

Detective Stutika will miss working with the men and women of the JPD. He considers many of his colleagues at the department lifelong friends. He did, however, share he will not miss being called in for cases and looks forward to not thinking about what work he has to do the following day.
