The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for much of northern Illinois until 12:00am January 2, 2022. 
 

* WHAT...snow, falling heavily at times, with developing blowing
  snow and dangerous travel expected. Total snow accumulations of
  4 to 8 inches are expected. Northeast winds could gust up to 35
  mph Saturday afternoon and evening.

* WHERE...Portions of north central and northeast Illinois.

* WHEN...From 9 AM this morning to midnight CST tonight.

* IMPACTS...Travel could become very difficult. Blowing snow
  after sunset Saturday could significantly reduce visibility,
  especially in open areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heavier snow rates appear most likely
  between 2 and 8 PM Saturday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.
