City Thanks Deputy Chief Terry Sheridan for 30 Years of Service

On Monday, January 3, 2022, Deputy Chief Terry Sheridan officially retired from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after 30 years of service to the City of Janesville.   
  
Deputy Chief Sheridan served as a member of the JPD since his hire in January 1992. He holds an Associate's degree in Police Science from Blackhawk Technical College and a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Upper Iowa University. Deputy Chief Sheridan is also a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff & Command. Born and raised in Janesville, he credits his father, a former member of the Janesville Fire Department, for bringing him to a career in public service.  
  
Throughout his time with the JPD, Deputy Chief Sheridan held various positions, including Patrol Officer, Identification Officer, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. He came to his current role in April 2018, when he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police, overseeing the Operations, Investigations, and Special Services Divisions. His other assignments have included working as a Bike Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer and Coordinator, SWAT Negotiator, and the JPD's first Certified Forensic Sketch Artist. 
  
Deputy Chief Sheridan served on various JPD and City committees throughout his career, being acknowledged by the City for his contributions on several occasions. These recognitions include receiving the JPD's Award of Excellence in 2013 and the City's Lead Paddler Award in 2019. The City noted his outstanding leadership further following his guidance during President Donald Trump's visit to Janesville in 2016 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. 
  
Deputy Chief Sheridan looks forward to spending more time with his wife Peggy and their two sons, Alec, who lives in Oshkosh, and Scott, who lives in Janesville. He is also an active volunteer with Safe Families for Children. An avid motorcyclist, he plans to enjoy traveling and sightseeing on his bike in retirement.  
  
When asked what he appreciated most about his career, Deputy Chief Sheridan shared that it has changed over the years. He valued the opportunity to help the community and be there for his neighbors in their times of need. He also expressed his gratitude for the community and their support of the Janesville Police Department.
