On Monday, January 3, 2022, Officer Steve Knox officially retired from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after over 21 years of service to the City of Janesville.   

Officer Knox has served the community since his hire with the Janesville Police Department in October 2000. A 1989 graduate of Parker High School, he initially worked in fitness, holding Bachelor’s degrees in Physical Fitness/Training from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Officer Knox managed a fitness center in Malaysia before returning to his native Janesville to begin his career in law enforcement.  

In addition to working as a Patrol Officer on first, second, and third shifts, Officer Knox held various other assignments, including Bike Patrol Officer, BEARCAT Operator, and member of the JPD's Safety Committee. He also served as a Field Training Officer and Defense and Arrest Tactics Instructor, where he helped mentor fellow officers.  

In retirement, Officer Knox plans to spend more time with his wife Daphne and their children, Colby and Courtney. He looks forward to taking a few months to relax before exploring future career opportunities. A fitness enthusiast, he is excited to continue with his hobby of exercising and personal health.   

Officer Knox enjoyed many aspects of his career, including positive interactions with the public and learning from his coworkers. He hopes to have made a difference in his community through his service. Officer Knox is grateful to leave with the respect of the JPD team.
