Large drug bust made by FCPD and RCSO

On Monday, January 3, 2021, Forest City Police Department initiated a traffic stop in the area of Beaver St. After a short vehicle chase, the suspect vehicle stopped and both subjects were detained. The passenger was identified as Michael Irvin Hughes and the driver was identified as Mickie Callahan. FCPD K9 Thor was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. During the investigation, a large amount of methamphetamine was located inside the vehicle. FCPD Narcotic Detectives requested assistance from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and Criminal Apprehension Team (C.A.T.) after gathering additional information regarding large amounts of methamphetamine being stored at multiple locations. The following items were seized from the vehicle:

  • 616.44 Grams of methamphetamine
  • (1) Walther P22 handgun
  • (1) Walther P380 handgun
  • (1) M&P Shield 9mm handgun
  • 29.4 grams of (Psilocybin) “Mushrooms”
  • (3) Dosage units of ecstasy
  • Small amount of marijuana and THC products
  • $7,004.20 US currency
FCPD Officers with the assistance of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and Criminal Apprehension Team (C.A.T.) conducted a search at 125 Lark Ln. Forest City, NC. The following items were seized from this location:
  • 47.7 Grams of methamphetamine
  • 3.8 Grams of methamphetamine
  • 7.6 Grams of marijuana
  • Multiple items of drug paraphernalia
Following the search of 125 Lark Ln., a search warrant was conducted on a storage unit located in Forest City, NC. The following items were sized from the storage unit:
  • 2,097.86 Grams of methamphetamine
  • (1) Stolen bicycle
  • Multiple (Multi Color Pills)
  • (1) Marlin .22 Cal rifle
  • (1) German made .22 Cal revolver
As a result of this joint investigation, a total of 2,765.8 Grams (6.09 Pounds) of methamphetamine was taken off the streets and out of the hands of many.  Forest City P.D. would like to thank the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and Criminal Apprehension Team (C.A.T.). This large seizure was made as part of a Narcotics Task Force between the Forest City Police Department and Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. The following person was charged in this incident:
Michael Irvin Hughes, age 53, of Lark Lane in Forest City, was arrested and charged with one count of traffick in methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule I, two counts of possession of schedule III, one count of possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, two counts of maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance, five counts of possession of firearm by felon, one count of possession of stolen property, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a $580,000 secured bond.
