Advisory

Winter Weather Preparations & Reminders

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area from midnight through noon on Friday, with three to five inches of snow expected, in addition to hazardous conditions during the Friday morning commute. In addition, Governor Murphy has declared a State of Emergency for all of New Jersey, beginning at 10:00 PM on Thursday.

-In anticipation of the storm, the Department of Public Works has been pre-treating roads in known problem areas throughout Town this afternoon, and will begin plowing operations once three inches of snow has accumulated.

-Today, Public Works also continued the third pass of leaf collection to clear as many remaining curbside piles as possible. Leaf collection will be suspended on Friday, and will resume on Monday.

-Grand Sanitation has rescheduled recycling for Zone 5 to Saturday, January 8. Residents in this zone should not place recyclables curbside until Friday evening. Today's Zone 4 pick up is still ongoing into the evening as a result of a staffing shortage, and they expect to complete the full zone tonight.

-The Conservation Center is expected to open as scheduled on Saturday, January 8, from 9:00-3:00.

-Downtown residents without driveways may park in Lot 1 behind Farinolio/Chipotle. In response to feedback from last winter's storms, Lot 3 at the south side train station will also be made available temporarily for off-street parking, as the demand for commuter spaces in that location has been reduced due to the pandemic. All cars must be removed from Lot 3 no later than 6:00AM on Saturday to avoid being ticketed.

-Public ordinance 2070 prohibits parking on any street in Westfield when three or more inches of snow have fallen until snowfall stops and the entire width of the road has been plowed. Under these circumstances, the shoveling or blowing of snow into a plowed street is also banned.

-In addition, the following locations are subject to alternate side of the street parking after three inches of snow have fallen, and vehicles need to park on the side of the street with even house numbers (except for Ross Place).

  • 400 & 500 block of Downer Street
  • 400 block of First Street
  • Livingston Street
  • Cacciola Place
  • Cowperthwaite Place between Elm and Clark Streets
  • 300 & 400 block of Lenox Avenue
  • 200 block of St. Paul Street
  • Entire length of Ross Place (park on the side with odd numbers only)

-Updates including plowing alerts and public safety information will be posted on the Town’s website (www.westfieldnj.gov) and social media channels, as well as through Nixle.
