Maribel Gonzalez-Flores (24-year-old Santa Rosa woman)

Incident Summary

On 01/06/2022 at approximately 11:30 AM, a Petaluma Police Department officer was patrolling the parking lot of a local hotel when he observed a suspicious vehicle in one of the parking stalls. A record check of the vehicle revealed it had been reported stolen by the owner in San Pablo.

Once the officers confirmed the vehicle was not occupied, they conducted surveillance in the area. At approximately 11:58 AM, officers observed Victor Mendoza and Maribel Flores get into the stolen vehicle and appeared to be in the process of leaving.

Due to the elevated safety risk, officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop on the vehicle and detained both occupants without incident. Ultimately it was determined that Mendoza was in possession of the stolen vehicle and was placed under arrest. It was discovered that Flores had a warrant from a previous arrest involving vehicle theft and was also placed under arrest.

The vehicle was later release to the owner.

Mendoza was later transported to the Sonoma County Jail where he was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Petaluma Police Department continues to be committed to reducing vehicle theft related crimes.
