On Sunday, December 19, 2021, at approximately 2155 hours, Corcoran Police Officers responded to an injury traffic collision at Whitley and Pickerell Avenues. Officers located two vehicles with major damage that were involved in a collision at the intersection. A 34-year-old victim was located and found to be unconscious and not breathing. Lifesaving efforts were performed, and emergency medical services later pronounced the victim deceased on scene. The deceased victim was later identified as Benjamin Bruun of Visalia. Through investigation, it was found the driver of the suspect vehicle had fled the scene on foot with other occupants prior to officer’s arrival. Corcoran Police Department Detectives began investigating this hit and run and were able to identify the driver of the suspect vehicle as Malaquias Guzman, from Corcoran. Detectives authored an arrest warrant for Malaquias for hit and run resulting in death. Detectives located and arrested Malaquias at his place of employment on Thursday, January 6, 2022
