NEWARK POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

Newark, California (Monday, January 10, 2022)
On Saturday, January 8, 2022 at approximately 11:20 p.m., Newark Police Officers and members of the Alameda County Fire Department responded to a reported traffic collision involving a vehicle with four occupants into an unoccupied parked vehicle on Saint Isabel Street near Cedar Boulevard. Upon arrival, personnel found a vehicle with an unresponsive passenger. The remaining passenger, a 22-year old male out of Fremont, was extracted from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.  The identity of the subject is pending notification of next of kin.
 
The three other occupants of the vehicle sustained only minor injuries.
 
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Salvador Silva-Ramierz, a 24-year old male out of Newark. He was ultimately arrested under suspicion of DUI and booked at Santa Rita Jail.
 
At this time, the collision remains under investigation.
 
This is the first fatal traffic collision in Newark in 2022.
