Officers arrest a wanted suspect after foot chase

On the morning of January 8th, officers arrested an armed suspect—wanted in connection with a previous domestic violence incident.

On January 8th at 8:15 am, an officer was patrolling the 2300 block of Eighth Street when he spotted a man getting into his vehicle.  The officer recognized the man as previously wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident where a victim suffered several head injuries in November.  When the officer stopped nearby to conduct a records check of the man’s vehicle, the man approached the officer to inquire why the officer was performing a records check.  When the officer told the man that he had a warrant for his arrest, the man ran away from the officer.

The officer ran after the suspect and caught up with him about ½ block away when the suspect ran out of energy.

The officer arrested the man and searched the man’s shoulder bag, which was wrapped around his chest and shoulders. Inside of the bag, the officer located a loaded un-serialized handgun (AKA Ghost Gun).

In addition to his outstanding warrant, the suspect (a 39-year-old Berkeley man) was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded/concealed firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm/ammunition as well as other charges.

On January 11th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with PC 29800(a)(1)—possession of a firearm by a felon, PC 25400(a)(2)—carrying a concealed firearm, PC 25400(c)(1)—being a convicted felon with concealed firearm, and PC 30305(a)(1)—possession of ammunition by a prohibited person.
