Vigo County Sheriff's Office Hiring Process Begins
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office will be accepting applications for Merit Deputy Sheriff and Reserve Deputy Sheriff, beginning January 18th. Applications must be completed and submitted online no later than 4pm March 4th, 2022. To complete an application visit the Vigo County web page (vigocounty.in.gov). Click on employment tab and search under Sheriff’s Office.
Upon closing of initial application process (March 4th), our internal hiring process will begin. Ensure a valid email is included in initial application, as future correspondence will be through email. Our complete hiring process generally takes between 4 and 6 months. The process includes:
- Full application
- Written exam
- Physical agility test
- Extensive background investigation
- Peer board interview
- Polygraph examination
- Personal Evaluation exam
- Administrative interview
- Merit board interview
MERIT DEPUTY SHERIFF
- Full time position with benefits
- $51,244 Starting salary
- Longevity increase of .0125% of base pay years 2 to 21 of service
- (Equivalent to $12,811 after 21st year of service)
- $2,150 yearly clothing allowance
- Take-home vehicle
- Vacation and sick time
- % based pension on average of highest 3 years’ salary
- Divisions/positions within agency include patrol, criminal investigations, criminal activity task force, drug task force, K9 program, training coordinator, and school resource program
RESERVE DEPUTY SHERIFF
- Volunteer position (no yearly salary)
- $1,500 yearly clothing allowance
- Required 24+ hours of service each month
- 550+ hour initial training program
- Continued training throughout years of service
