On January 13, 2022, at about 12:30 PM, Simi Valley Police Officers went to the intersection of Royal Avenue and Madera Road to investigate a traffic hazard. The hazard involved a subject riding his skateboard in the roadway. When the officers arrived, they found the suspect and attempted to detain him, at which time he fled the area. The officers pursued and eventually caught up with him. At this point, the suspect, who was identified as 25-year-old Simi resident Chad Rickets, physically resisted the officers. The officers used their training and available equipment to subdue and handcuff Rickets. Because of this incident both Rickets and one of the officers sustained injuries requiring medical attention. Rickets was eventually booked into the Ventura County Jail for Resisting an Executive Officer in the Performance of his Duties and Resisting an Officer Resulting in Bodily Injury. Both crimes are felonies.
