01-14-22 WINTER STORM INFORMATION Rutherford County is expecting a significant winter storm to begin Saturday evening at approximately 9:00 pm. Rutherford County Emergency Management has identified several possible shelters. They will be announced if they are activated. 1. If you are without heat and need sheltering, please call 828-429.6437. 2. If you lose heat, please contact the appropriate power company. Do NOT call 911 to report power outages. • Duke Power: 800-769-3766 or text OUT to 57801 • Forest City: 828-245-0149 • Rutherford Electric: 828-245-1621 or 800-521-0920 3. To report downed trees, call 828-286-2911. Do NOT call 911. Below are recommendations that each household should consider. • Do not drive unless absolutely necessary. Most emergency calls are for stranded drivers. • Be prepared for a power outage by having enough food, water, and medications to last for at least 72 hours. • Make a family communications plan. How will you contact each other and make sure everyone is safe? • Restock your emergency supplies kit, including rock salt, sand, snow shovels, and heating fuel. • Bring pets inside. • Use charcoal grills and generators OUTSIDE only. The fumes can be deadly. • Charge all electronic devices, especially phones. Gather all available flashlights and candles in case you lose power. BE PREPARED. BE SAFE.
