Advisory

Subject arrested for providing obscene material to a minor, traveling to meet a minor for lewd purposes

SUBJECT: Subject arrested for providing obscene material to a minor, traveling to meet a minor for lewd purposes

LOCATION: 1400 block of Hudson, Redwood City

DATE/TIME: January 4th 2022

INVOLVED PARTY: Johnnatan ZelayaIzaguirre 38-year old, Redwood City Resident

In mid-December 2021, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Investigation Division contacted the Redwood City Police Department Detective Bureau with information about an independent contractor driving instructor, not affiliated with the DMV, who they believed engaged in criminal activity with a juvenile female student driver. Redwood City Police Detectives quickly assembled a team of investigators from the DMV, the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, and the Hillsborough Police Department Investigations Unit. A collaborative team investigation established credible criminal activity associated with the suspect using an undercover female police officer and social media investigative tactics.

Johnnatan ZelayaIzaguirre, 38-years old, became the subject of the investigation. He is the owner and operator of a driving school: the California Driving Academy, which provides driving instruction in the general San Mateo County area. ZelayaIzaguirre was suspected of furnishing pornographic material to juveniles.

The investigation is ongoing, but at this stage of the investigation, enough evidence has been compiled to arrest Johnnatan ZelayaIzaguirre for the following felonies:

  • PC 288.2 (a) Sending harmful material to a juvenile
  • PC 288.4 (b) Traveling to meet a minor for lewd purposes
ZelayaIzaguirre was booked into SMCJ for the above charges.

Search warrants for ZelayaIzaguirre’s residence and business were executed where electronic items were seized and are still being evaluated for criminal activity confirmation.

Anyone with information about this case or similar activity with this suspect is encouraged to call Detective Sergeant Nick Perna. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous about this investigation or any other Redwood City criminal activity, please call the Tip Line at 650-780-7110.
