Update #6 & Final: National Tsunami Warning Center cancelled tsunami advisory for Valdez & PWS. No tsunami threat for our community.

Background: Underwater volcanic eruption in the Pacific Ocean near Tonga. Tsunami advisory was issued by NTWC early Saturday morning for all of coastal Alaska, including Valdez. National Tsunami Warning Center reported approximate one to three foot waves in western Aleutian Islands as of this update. City monitored situation and provided updates to the community. No local evacuation was necessary. This will be the final local update on the situation.
