Folsom Police Department Progress Update on STAKE Grant

Folsom Police Department has begun the second fiscal year of this three-year grant term.

STAKE is the Stop Tobacco Access to Kids Enforcement Grant program which funds personnel time for sworn officers and administrative staff to perform tobacco education and enforcement activities.

It is illegal for a retailer in the United States to sell any tobacco product, including cigarettes, cigars, and e-cigarettes to anyone under 21.

Accomplishments:
• Minor Decoy Operations conducted at four Folsom tobacco retailers; one cashier sold to the minor decoy and was issued a warning.
• Shoulder Tap Operation conducted outside one Folsom tobacco retailer; five citizens refused to purchase tobacco products for the minor.
• Directed patrol conducted at parks, schools, and outdoor community gathering places with Nonsmoking/Vaping Ordinances in place.
• Tobacco Retailer Training held October 25, 2021.
• Six Anti-Smoke/Vape presentations conducted at Folsom High School.
The grant programs will run until July 1, 2023.
Funding for this program is from the California Department of Public Health through the Food and Drug Branch Tobacco Enforcement Section. For more information see the California Healthcare, Research, and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016, Proposition 56.
