Over the past month, there have been eight reports of checks stolen from various mailboxes throughout Town. The thefts have occurred from standard and tamper-proof residential mailboxes. The stolen checks are then altered for large sums and cashed at different financial institutions. To date, over one hundred forty thousand dollars has been fraudulently obtained. We are asking the public to report any suspicious activity around any mailboxes. We also recommend using online banking services or hand-delivering your letter directly to the post office.
