On January 19^th, officers arrested a juvenile after a brandishing a weapon and bringing a weapon on BHS Campus.
 
At 11:53 am, officers responded to a report of a fight in Downtown Berkeley involving BHS students.  After contacting the involved parties, officers learned that two of the students had threatened others with a handgun during the incident.
 
After consulting with BHS staff, the School Resource Officer was able to identify who the two students were who reportedly had the handgun.
 
Shortly thereafter, BHS staff alerted officers that the two students were now on campus.  When officers tried to contact the pair, both students ran from officers.  Officers chased after both students as they ran into the C-Building and then back out of the building toward Milvia Street and Kittredge Street.  Officers were able to eventually detain both students in the area of Shattuck Avenue and Allston Way.
 
When officers searched the two students, they found a BB gun in one of the student’s backpack.  On first glance, officers thought the weapon was an actual firearm because the BB gun had a steel slide and polymer frame—with all the visible markings of a real handgun (make, model, serial number, weight, etc).
 
The student with the BB gun (a 15-year-old boy) was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a replica firearm and having a weapon on campus.  The student does not attend BHS.
