Crime Alert Bulletin covering the week of January 10-16, 2022

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 01-11-22, at approximately 3:48 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Chevron gas station on Bayshore Boulevard on a burglary alarm. Upon arrival, officers found the rear roll-up door damaged or forced in. An unknown suspect, driving a Mercedes-Benz C class, pulled in front of the business next to the sliding glass doors and proceeded to grab a crowbar out of the trunk. The unknown suspect tried to open the front sliding glass doors with the crowbar. After an unsuccessful attempt, the unknown suspect got back into the Mercedes-Benz and drove to the rear of the business. Shortly after, the unknown suspect was seen on video surveillance inside the business. Suspect unknown stole two cash register trays, $30 in coins, and $3,000 worth of Newport cigarettes.

On Wednesday, 01-12-22, at approximately 4:53 p.m., Officer Reininger was on patrol in the area of Callan Boulevard and Clarinada Avenue and noticed a Chevrolet Impala that had its front and rear license plates covered with paper. As Officer Reininger approached the vehicle, the suspect, a 31-year old San Leandro resident, exited the car and ran around the vehicle to remove the coverings. The suspect then started walking away at a faster than normal pace. Officer Reininger ran up to the suspect and asked the suspect to walk back to the vehicle. The suspect immediately stated, “That’s not my car.” Officer Reininger found this response suspicious as he had observed the suspect exit the vehicle. The suspect later admitted that he was in the car. He was also found to be on probation. After searching the suspect, Officer Reininger found a plastic straw. The suspect said the plastic straw was a “tooter” used to smoke fentanyl. Found in the vehicle were multiple pieces of aluminum foil with burn marks and fentanyl. The suspect was subsequently cited for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
