IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON BURGLARY ATTEMPT, Saturday, January 22, 2022

As reported promptly by our police department, there was an attempted home burglary in the vicinity southwest of 87th and County Line Road yesterday.  It failed.  Nonetheless, crime is real and on the rise around us. We have to be vigilant – and prepared.  Please lock the doors of your houses and cars. Consider investing or upgrading your home security – yesterday’s attempted home burglary was thwarted by a camera equipped door bell system.  The homeowner was on vacation but the door video alerted the resident who promptly reported it.  Our Burr Ridge police arrived in minutes and the bad guys fled.  They did not get into the home.  We have not caught them – yet - but our police have the vehicle they used, video footage of one of them, and a backpack they abandoned.  With this information to aid the investigation, I’m confident our detectives will catch them soon.

Here's some facts.  There were three perpetrators – one is now on video because of the camera equipped door bell system.  They used a late model Mercedes SUV – stolen of course with out of state plates – and they were thwarted before entering the home.  They fled in the SUV as the police vehicles were heard approaching the home.  They abandoned the car – and back pack – scattering on foot. A helicopter and K-9 search could not locate them.

Burr Ridge police have been CALEA certified since the early 2000s.  CALEA, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., is a credentialing authority, based in the United States, whose primary mission is to accredit public safety agencies, namely law enforcement agencies, training academies, communications centers, and campus public safety agencies.  This certification has a direct correlation to the fact that our Village Boards have given the police force the best equipment and training to keep us safe. While we remain a safe place to live and work, we must recognize that Burr Ridge is transected by I55 and has convenient interior roads such as Madison, County Line, Plainfield and Wolf. These roads and easy access to the interstate system make travel convenient within the Village and also to and from Chicago and many other areas.  However, the bad guys use the same roadways to travel to and through our Village, so we need all residents to understand this and help the Village protect each other by locking up your stuff and consider increasing safety systems.

Our detectives are working to apprehend these perpetrators and our police will continue to send the message – stay out.  If you commit a crime in Burr Ridge, we will pursue and prosecute you.
