Occurred Date:           1/25/2022
Location:                    Lakeville Hwy @ US101 On Ramp
Suspect(s):                  Juan Flores-Vasquez, 21-year-old Petaluma resident

Incident Summary

On 1/25/2022 at 2140 hrs, Petaluma Police were responding to a fight call on Lakeville Hwy when a responding officer drove up on a motor vehicle collision involving a solo vehicle on Lakeville at US 101 north bound on ramp. The vehicle was driven by 21-year-old Petaluma resident Juan Flores- Vasquez. The VW sedan struck 2 trees in the center median and came to rest blocking the number 1 and 2 lanes of west bound Lakeville. The tremendous impact of the vehicle ejected the entire engine block, which came to rest blocking the number 1 east bound lane of Lakeville.

The engine appeared to be on fire when the first officer arrived on scene. A passenger was asleep in the passenger seat and was uninjured in the collision. Both Flores-Vasquez and the passenger were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital as a precaution. An officer followed the PFD ambulance to the hospital and evaluated Flores-Vasquez for Driving Under the Influence. He was arrested for operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol by having a Blood Alcohol Content over .08%. In this instance, Florez-Vasquez was driving at more than 1 and ½ times the legal limit. Additionally, he was unlicensed and driving at a speed much higher than the posted speed limit.

The tow company and Petaluma Public Works Department made efforts to clear the roadway of debris and the road was reopened.

The driver and passenger were not involved in the initial fight call which officers were responding to.
