Suspect charged in the murder of Sereinat’e Henderson

On the afternoon of January 24th, detectives arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the murder of Sereinat’e Henderson.
 
In the evening of October 21st 2020, a car driving through Prince and Ellis was shot at multiple times.  The car was occupied by 19-year-old Sereinat’e Henderson and other family members—including her 1-year-old son.  Sereinat’e was transported to a hospital, where she later died.  Sereinat’e was pregnant with her second child.
 
After months of investigation, service of multiple search warrants and collaboration with the District Attorney’s Office, detectives were able to identify the suspect through electronic and forensic evidence.
 
On January 24th, 2022, detectives arrested a 21-year-old man for the murder of Sereinat’e.  At the time of his arrest, the suspect was in custody at Santa Rita Jail on a gang-related Berkeley shooting.
 
On January 26th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with PC 187(a)—murder, PC 246—shooting at an occupied vehicle,  PC 187(a) / PC 664—attempted murder, PC 245(b)—assault with a semiautomatic firearm, PC 29800(a)(1)—possession of firearm by a felon, as well as a number of criminal enhancements.
 
The tragic loss of Sereinat’e caused emotional pain and suffering to her family, loved ones and the entire Berkeley community.  The Berkeley Police Department shares in the senseless loss of this young mother to gun violence and will continue to work to reduce and prevent gun crimes that threaten the safety of our community.
