Winter Storm Kenan – Saturday AM Update

Winter Storm Kenan – Saturday AM Update

Forecast (5:30am via Tri-State Storm Watch):

Blizzard conditions under an intensifying snow band in coastal Monmouth and Ocean. About 8.5 inches in Neptune at this time with reports of 8 to 11 inches throughout coastal Monmouth and Ocean with a lesser amounts inland. Heavy snow and strong winds will continue this morning. Snow intensity will become more variable later this morning. Lighter snow will fall this afternoon and end by around 3pm or 4pm. Along the coast, including the immediate Neptune area, total snow accumulations will be 14 to 17 inches. Across interior NJ and metro NYC, final amounts will be in the 8 to 12 inch range.

Recommendations:

• This morning, our most important recommendation is to STAY OFF OF THE ROADS. We are nearing 10” of snow accumulation, with much higher pockets of snow in spots due to the blizzard conditions creating deep snow drifts. Unless it’s an emergency, we are urging all residents to stay home.
• Snow Parking Regulations are in effect. If you are not parked in accordance with the regulations (especially on narrower streets) your vehicle may be towed. For the majority of Neptune Township, this means you are only permitted to park on the odd-numbered sides of the street. For most of Ocean Grove, there is no parking where indicated by signs or where otherwise indicated in the snow parking ordinances, which can be found here: https://neptunetownship.org/departments/weather-emergencies
• Please be patient, our Public Works Department has been on the road plowing all night and will continue to do so until the roads are clear. As of now, it is expected that roads will be cleared for safe travel in time for the Monday morning rush hour. Please stay off the roads this weekend so DPW has room to operate.
