Advisory

********UPDATE****************** Community Advisory Regarding Pop Up Covid Testing Sites

*******************UPDATE***************************
There is a correction in the below press release.  It appeared the pop-up covid testing site was being ran by Crestview Clinical Laboratory, not Community Wellness as previously stated.  When the Police Department’s Code Enforcement Officer later contacted Crestview Clinical Laboratory, they advised they did not have a testing site operating in Petaluma.  Based upon Crestview Clinical Laboratory advising they did not authorize the use of their license at this location, it has been deemed a suspicious testing site, and further investigations are being conducted.

In the interest of public safety, we are advising the public that if they need to obtain a Covid test to please to contact their health care provider or go to the Sonoma County Covid Testing website to find an approved testing site location, which is located at https://socoemergency.org/emergency/novel-coronavirus/testing-and-tracing/.

Incident Summary

From the period of 1/15/2022 to 1/26/2022 the Petaluma Police Department received several calls for service regarding a temporary Covid Testing site located at 320 North McDowell Blvd., Petaluma.  Officers responded to the location, and it appeared the free testing site had the proper documents to be operating as a pop-up medical testing facility.  From the documents at the testing site, it appeared a laboratory named Community Wellness, was the operating company.  The Police Department’s Code Enforcement Officer later contacted Community Wellness, who advised they did not have a testing site operating in Petaluma, and that the location was being ran without their permission.  When officers returned to the testing site to contact the operators, the pop-up had been removed and it is believed it is no longer being operated in Petaluma.  In addition, the department has been contacted by people who confirmed that they received a test and their results from the site, therefore at this time it is unknown if members of the public have been victimized by their activities.  Based upon Community Wellness advising they did not authorize this location, it has been deemed a suspicious testing site, and further investigations are being conducted.

The Petaluma Police Department is reminding the public that if they need to obtain a Covid test to please to contact their health care provider or go to the Sonoma County Covid Testing website to find an approved testing site location, which is located at https://socoemergency.org/emergency/novel-coronavirus/testing-and-tracing/.

If a member of the public believes they were scammed by paying for a test and not receiving the results in the time frame described by the testing site, please contact Officer Wolford at the Petaluma Police department at (707) 778-4372.

Thank you in your partnership to reduce crime in our community.
